This policy explains what personal information we collect through deorista.co.za, why we collect it, how we handle it, and what you can ask us to do with it.

It is written with the Protection of Personal Information Act ("POPIA") and South African electronic communications requirements in mind. It describes our practices for this website; it is not a legal opinion or a statement that any particular compliance standard has been certified.

How we collect it

We collect information directly from you: through the quote request form on this website, by email, by telephone or WhatsApp, and through any information you volunteer in the course of an enquiry or engagement. Limited technical information is collected automatically when your browser requests pages from our website, and through the cookies described in our Cookie Policy.

Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share it where it is necessary for the purposes above, including with: service providers who help us operate the website and send email on our behalf; technology providers hosting our website and systems; transport and logistics partners engaged to carry or handle your freight; our professional advisers; and regulators, courts or authorities where we are legally required to disclose it.

Where a provider processes information on our behalf, we require it to be used only for the purpose we engaged them for.

Data security

We take reasonable technical and organisational safeguards to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access and misuse, including encrypted connections to this website, access controls on our systems and limiting access to the team members who need it. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected for, or for as long as a legal, tax or regulatory obligation requires us to retain it. When it is no longer needed we delete it or otherwise remove its link to you.

Your rights under POPIA

  • To ask what personal information we hold about you and request access to it.
  • To ask us to correct or update information that is inaccurate or incomplete.
  • To ask us to delete information we no longer have grounds to keep.
  • To object to our processing of your information in certain circumstances.
  • To withdraw consent where our processing relies on your consent.

To exercise any of these, contact us using the details at the end of this policy. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

Direct marketing

If we ever send you direct marketing, every message will include a way to opt out, and you can also ask us to stop at any time by contacting us. Opting out of marketing does not affect our ability to respond to your enquiries or service your loads.

This website may link to, or rely on, services operated by other organisations. We are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of any third-party website or service, and their own privacy terms will apply to information you provide to them directly.
